Becoming comfortable seeing yourself in your Personal branding photographs

If you're like me, have you ever experienced that shocking moment when you catch a glimpse of yourself in a photo? It's like, "Wait a minute, is that how I really look?" Trust me; you're not alone in this bewildering experience.

We're about to embark on a little journey to explore why you might not be a fan of your photos. And we will have some fun along the way because who said self-discovery couldn't be entertaining?

Let's start with the basics. Did you put any thought into what you were wearing for that photo? Or did you go with whatever was clean and within arm's reach? We've all been there, but sometimes a well-planned outfit can make all the difference.

Here's a tricky one: are you comparing yourself to old photos? If you have a few recent pictures, this can really mess with your perception. Time changes us, my friend, and it's only fair to give yourself a break.

And what about your state of mind during the photo session? Were you tired or distracted? Maybe your mind was preoccupied with something, maybe your blessed little dog was unwell and needed attention? These things happen and can affect how you come across in a photo.

Sometimes our expectations are too high. We're not flushed with the beauty of age any more (unless you are 19, in which case, lucky you! You've so much to look forward to). It's essential to be realistic and not hold yourself to impossible standards. So embrace the wisdom and character that comes with age.

And with age, there are physical changes in our bodies, not to mention weight gain, Menopause, and ever-changing hormones – they can all play a part in how we perceive ourselves. But remember, you're still a rockstar regardless of the changes. Don't let a photo define your worth.

If the envisioned photo never quite materializes in your mind, did you consider the proper clothing, location, or props for your shoot? Sometimes, planning can work wonders. And here's a personal piece of advice for you: men, always take time out to treat yourself to a good grooming session; make sure you're clean shaven or if you have a beard, then get it appropriately trimmed; it makes such a difference and looks so good on pictures when done correctly. And for you ladies, along with your hair and makeup, don't forget to get your fingers nails painted; your hands are so important for your pictures, so let's make them a feature in your Personal Branding shoot.

Now, here's a game-changer. Take a moment to figure out what kind of photos you actually like of yourself. What is it about those images that you're really proud of? But remember to keep it real, guys. If you're fond of a particular photo because you were younger and slimmer, no photographer in the world can turn back time, not even me! :-)

Cherish those memories, but also embrace the present.

Remember, appearance is everything. What you wear and how you style your hair and do your makeup contribute to the overall package. Oh, and let's remember the power of location! Find that perfect backdrop that makes you shine like a film star.

Here's a grand idea; learning to love ourselves just as we are. It may sound like a tall order, but it's a game-changer; a bit of self-belief is mighty powerful.

So, my friend, the next time you stumble upon an unflattering photo, remember to take it with a grain of salt. Explore your style, plan ahead, and embrace your uniqueness. And above all, have a good laugh and enjoy the journey of self-discovery. The most beautiful photo of you may be around the corner. Keep those smiles coming!

Check out my new set of branding photos that my friend Lee Haynes recently took of me; I love them, it was a boiling hot day down by the Marine in Ipswich, and even I initially felt a little anxious, but it was so much fun…even being in front of the camera for a change.

I feel so proud and even more confident having these new images to add to my social media posts and my new website, which is coming soon.

So get in touch, and let's discuss how to bring out that film star in you and show the world how special you are.
