Ever wondered what it's like to step into the world of fashion photography?
For some, it might sound like a bit of a challenge, while for others, it's a dream gig—I fell into the latter category for a good chunk of my younger years.
In my twenties, I was side by side with the fashion scene, thanks to my then-partner, who worked as a stylist for big brands, catalogues, and fashion magazines. She was always flying off to exotic places for shoots and rubbing shoulders with some big names in the fashion game.
We crossed paths unexpectedly at Rome Airport once; I was there for a pre-football World Cup story, and she was leaving Italy after styling an editorial fashion shoot. We occasionally teamed up for personal fashion shoot ideas, which we frequently had, but as my editorial and press work got busier, fully diving into the fashion scene was a bit of a challenge. Trust me, you had to live and breathe fashion to make it in that world.
Fast forward to today, and I got a call from Joshua, a high-end bespoke tailor for men's suits. We met during one of my Personal branding shoots in the city; he was assisting our mutual client.
Impressed by my previous work, Joshua asked me to collaborate on his shoot for a new collection he had put together.
We set up shop at the sleek private members club, 8 Moorgate, near Finsbury Circus, for an evening shoot that perfectly captured the city's vibe, just as Joshua wanted.
With four scenarios, indoors and outdoors, against the city backdrop, we nailed the shots that Joshua had in mind. I used off-camera strobe lighting to give the images a little extra pop, highlighting the details in the garments.
Joshua got in front of the camera himself, modelling his suits effortlessly. We even had one of his clients, Liam, join in to model a suit, adding a nice touch to the overall look of the shoot.
I'm happy to say that Joshua was delighted with the resulting images, as was I, and we hope to carry on this collaboration in the future for 2024.
