Your personal brand is your unique identity, encompassing your values, passions, and beliefs. It's a reflection of your true self, both personally and professionally. In a world where authenticity is valued, why not make the effort to showcase the real "you"?
But how do you go about building and expressing your personal brand authentically?
Early this month, I received a call from a local broadcast journalist Georgy Jamieson, who, as a freelance creative needed a series of new images for her personal branding and marketing.
Georgy told me, that she hadn’t had her pictures taken for some while, and felt a little less confident about the process due to suffering from some unwanted ’trolling’ some years ago.
So she needed someone with the patience and the experience who could help ease her back into giving herself the visibility she needed for her work.
My process starts way before we even take a single picture, via phone or Zoom calls, getting to know each other and understanding Georgy’s expectations and issues.
Then on the day of the shoot, we sit down, and carry on our friendly conversations over a coffee where I begin to go through the agenda for her shoot.
All of my client's have the same expectations; they all want superb images that represent their personality and brand, but they all have different concerns and anxieties. I find that men are initially a little less confident in front of my camera, and need a little more coaxing, and women, once they settle down, they really enjoy the whole process.
I remind them that they need to buy into the notion that these images are a mirror of their best selves, and are being produce to represent their business, and crucially, understanding that their audience really wants to see them.
Working with a professional photographer and/or filmmaker can help you become more confident. We have “tricks” to make you feel at ease. Most of the time, they’re not really tricks though but there is a way to work with people in front of the camera to take a bit of their nervousness away and help them to relax.
Georgy absolutely loved her photo session with me, and was over the moon with the results from the shoot, which is exactly the reaction I get from all my clients once they’ve had some time to reflect on their day working with me.
